Starting this sustained investigation piece, I wanted to do something different than my other pieces. I got the idea to do a BBQ flyer, and I wanted to incorporate a retro theme to go along with it. I found the text I wanted for my project that said "Barbecue," and I used my adjustment tools to change my text's coloring. Then, to keep my retro theme, I found a picture of a girl from the '80s, created a layer mask around her, and used my soft brush to clean up her edges. To keep my BBQ theme, I used another layer mask to take out the sandwich in her hand. I decided to use a hot dog to put in her hand because it perfectly aligned with my theme and added more visible variety.

I then jumped over to work on the background and decided exactly what I wanted the background to be. I chose to do the striped background because I thought it was not too much of a distraction from my piece's main subject. After I edited out the sandwich, I took the photo of the hotdog and created a layer mask. I then placed the hot dog where the sandwich was and used my stamp tool to stamp out parts of the sandwich on the face. After I finished editing out the sandwich, I adjusted the hotdog's size so that it fits smoothly in her hands.
To finish off my BBQ flyer, I wanted to add some humor to my piece, so that is how I got the idea to add the text and speech bubble. I thought it would make a good laugh to whoever was reading it. I created the text by finding an image that said that and then used a layer mask and used my paintbrush tool to change the colors to finish my project.
